YouTube is stepping up its game in managing AI-generated content by collaborating with the renowned Creative Artists Agency (CAA). The platform is working on developing tools to detect and manage AI-generated content, including deepfakes of famous individuals. This partnership is a significant step forward in addressing the challenges posed by AI in the creative space.
As part of this initiative, several of the world’s most influential figures, represented by CAA, will have access to these new detection tools. Their role will be to provide critical feedback, helping YouTube refine its systems and improve controls.
CAA is a major talent agency in the U.S., representing top-tier artists such as Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Peso Pluma, Queen, Sabrina Carpenter, Shaboozey, and The Weeknd, among many others. Beyond music, the agency also manages sports talent. Starting next year, high-profile talent from the NBA, NFL, and other entertainment sectors will begin testing YouTube’s AI tools.
This collaboration with CAA is just the beginning of a larger initiative. YouTube plans to bring other testers on board, including YouTube creators, creative professionals, and additional partners representing talent from various fields. The aim is to build a robust tool that responsibly empowers and protects creators across the platform.
“CAA’s clients’ direct experience with digital replicas in the evolving landscape of AI will be critical in shaping a tool that responsibly empowers and protects creators and the broader YouTube community,” YouTube stated.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan emphasized the importance of partnerships in building a responsible AI ecosystem. “We’re excited to collaborate with CAA, an organization that shares our commitment to empowering artists and creators,” he said. “This partnership marks a significant step toward ensuring artists maintain creative control over their likeness while exploring AI’s vast potential.”
CAA’s CEO and Co-Chairman Bryan Lourd echoed this sentiment, highlighting the need for ethical AI practices that prioritize talent rights. “At CAA, our AI conversations are centered around ethics and talent rights, and we applaud YouTube’s leadership for creating this talent-friendly solution,” he said.
This partnership continues YouTube’s proactive approach to AI development. The platform has already collaborated with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group to create music-related AI tools. Earlier this year, YouTube introduced systems that allow individuals to request takedowns of content mimicking their likeness or voice. It also requires AI-generated content to be clearly labeled, providing transparency to viewers.
By working closely with industry leaders, creators, and rightsholders, YouTube is paving the way for a responsible and innovative AI future. This collaboration with CAA not only underscores its commitment to protecting creators but also ensures that AI technology enhances, rather than diminishes, artistic expression.
